Checklist: this is how you’ll get your home photoshoot-ready!

Checklist: this is how you’ll get your home photoshoot-ready!

How do you make sure your home looks the very best? For the home photographer, but also for viewers… We’ll help you get started with this checklist!

Outside: the very first impression

A photo of the facade is used as the main photo on Funda and our website: check it out!

  • Remove any bicycles and (garbage) containers;
  • Check to see if the sidewalk, balcony, garden or patio could use a clean-sweep/clean-up;
  • Often difficult to arrange, but it’s great not to have a car directly in front of the house. You could park your own car out in front and move it at the last minute.

Inside: calm, space and light

A tidy and clean house looks more spacious. It enables potential buyers to better imagine the possibilities in terms of furnishings and decorations.

In general

  • Minor defects or blemishes in your home? The more you can fix, finish or polish in advance, the better. It will mean less distractions in the photos later;
  • Remove personal items (picture frames, toys, mail, keys, ashtrays and pet accessories) and seasonal items (the Christmas tree) out of sight;
  • Clear coat racks, tables, desks, window sills and the tops of closets;
  • The more floor space is clear, the better. So: furniture aside, rugs straight, the path towards windows and doors free;
  • Mop the floor, get rid of dust and cobwebs, polish the windows, mirrors, the kitchen, the bathroom and the toilet. Make sure that everything is dry once the photographer arrives!
  • Remove cords and power sockets out of sight;
  • Provide plenty of light: open those curtains!

Bathroom

  • Get rid of any loose toiletries in the bathroom: toothbrushes, shower gel but also the laundry basket, toilet brush, loo roll holder, towels, bathrobes, bath mats etc.;
  • Great to see everything shine!
Kitchen
  • Make sure the kitchen is nice and fresh and tidy: kitchen utensils, appliances, dish towels gone and the trash can out of sight.
Bedroom
  • Make beds neatly with neutral, calm bedding.

Getting the garden ready

  • Again, the more stuff out of sight, the better;
  • Mow the grass and remove weeds;
  • Is the garden not at its best? Consider putting down a few new potted plants or flowers.

Dotting the i’s

  • Are all the faucets straight?
  • Dead leaves out of the plants?
  • Pillows on the couch shaken up?
  • No privacy-sensitive pictures on the wall?
  • Toilet seats down?
  • The garage and storage shed tidy too?
  • Pretty bunch of flowers on the table?
  • Fresh fruit or fresh herb plant in the kitchen?
