Butzelaar CS Architects designed the ‘Schalkse Hoek’ project, which was completed in 2020. The building consists of 12 appartments. The sustainable and low-maintenance materials blend in beautifully with the existing buildings and the natural environment. The L-shaped building has a calm appearance thanks to its straight lines and neutral colours, combined with a luxurious and modern look.
Energy-neutral and sustainable living are the key words of this project. The houses are equipped with a heat pump for underfloor heating and cooling. The cooling system naturally ensures a pleasant temperature on a hot summer day or night. The flats are ventilated by a intelligent, balanced ventilation system: the heat recovery system. The stairwell and common areas are ventilated naturally. Each flat has its own set of PV panels to meet its own energy needs.
The complex is conveniently located next to the green and water-rich Engelandpark and close to the iconic Spaarne river. Around the corner, you will find several shops, including a shopping centre, supermarket and bakery. There are excellent connections, both by car and public transport, to Amsterdam/Hoofddorp/Schiphol (bus stop within walking distance). Within 10 minutes by bicycle, you are in the historic centre of Haarlem or at the railway station, and a 25-minute bicycle ride takes you through the dunes to the beach.
